During these 90 minute workshops you will be guided through a series of yoga practices as well as psychological theory, skills and evidence base for understanding and releasing stress. Each workshop includes breathing exercises and gentle movements for releasing tension as well as meditative and relaxation practices.
You will:
- Be introduced to an evidence-based model for understanding the impact of stress on the autonomic nervous system.
- Be guided through a series of gentle postures and movements to notice and release tension.
- Explore the breath as a means to notice stress as well as manage it.
- Experiment with mudras (hand positions) to find one that suits you and your mind
- Be guided through a relaxation practice
- Be introduced to the psychological theory and evidence underpinning these practices
You do not need to have practiced yoga before in order to benefit from these workshops. Every body and mind is welcome. I will offer different options for each practice so that you can choose a version that feels right. I will ask you to complete a health questionnaire before you arrive so that I can do my best to make sure that the practices we do will suit your needs.
Please note, these workshops are well suited to anyone interested in learning skills to support their mental health and emotional wellbeing. These workshops may compliment other therapeutic interventions, but are not a replacement for any intervention recommended for individuals experiencing mental health difficulties.
“Mary’s workshop was such a great mix of learning, movement and breathwork – I left the session feeling incredibly relaxed. I really enjoyed learning about the psychological benefits of yoga, offering me practical tools I will be able to use day to day to with feelings and overwhelm” Amy C.
“Thankyou for running this morning’s workshop. It’s very informative and helpful to focus the mind. As it wasn’t as physical as your usual class I was able to focus on my breathing too.” Claire H.
